Arts Council NPO Funding Success
Threshold Studios are delighted to announce that we are part of Arts Council England’s National Portfolio of organisations for 2018-22. At a time when the funding environment is increasingly complex, we are honoured that Arts Council England is once again investing in our work.
From 2018, Threshold Studios’ 20th anniversary year, we will be placing the development and delivery of the successful biennial Frequency Festival of Digital Culture in Lincoln at the core of our NPO commitment.
Building on a successful Cultural Olympiad project, Frequency Festival takes technological and hybrid art into Lincoln’s public spaces, heritage sites and venues, developing collaborative links between international and local artists. It is a place where audiences can playfully interrogate their relationship to virtual and physical realms.
Over 10 days across the October half term, Frequency presents digital screen-based, immersive, audio and installation works in non-traditional arts spaces and heritage sites on a festival trail. Street interventions, performances and events, workshops, seminars, and creative café conversations attract audiences from near and far to explore the impact technology is having on our lives.
Since 2011, over 300 UK and international artists have been showcased at the festival, from both established and emerging talent. It is a true cross sector endeavor with our partners in Lincoln.
Professor Mary Stuart, Vice Chancellor of the University of Lincoln and Chair of the Lincoln Cultural & Arts Partnership, said:
“Since its inception in 2011, Frequency has grown into a highlight of Lincoln’s cultural calendar. It is the product of a very special partnership between organisations across the city and Threshold Studios. We are delighted with news of Threshold Studios’ successful bid to Arts Council England for National Portfolio status. We are currently planning an ambitious programme for Frequency 2017 and can now also look forward to growing the 2019 and 2022 editions into a truly world class event.”
For Threshold, Frequency is a significant event where we can reach more people and extend our mission of creative media for social change. We are excited to be able to grow the festival further.
Frequency returns to Lincoln from 20-29 October. We are currently accepting creative submissions to this year’s festival, and look forward to sharing the programme with you soon.
