Co-Commission of Agna Rita by London based composer Jo Thomas.
Agna Rita is a work which combines elements from the medieval musical lydian mode, text from the magna carta and contemporary digital artefacts. The work is composed for the multi–channel sound wall at the Collection Gallery in Lincoln during Frequency Festival 2015.
It works with sculptural space, rhythmic matter and large expansive harmonic plains of sound which are composed to be present in the acoustic space of the gallery.
Jo Thomas is a London based composer. In 2012 she won the Prix Ars Electronica Golden Nica in Digital Music’s for her work Crystal Sounds of a Synchrotron. She works with a combination of composed electro acoustic music, live improvisation and sound installation. She has worked alongside a number of artists including Maria Chavez, Charles Hayward, Lee Gamble, Phil Nimblock and SquarePusher.
When composing she works mostly chooses to veer away from the more traditional formulaic music structures. Her music has been released by Holiday Records (Mermaids 2013’ the left field label Entr’acte and the contemporary music label NMC.
