Artist Callout: Exploring Lincoln’s Hidden Heritage – Digital Commissions for Frequency Festival 2026
We are looking for artists to help us bring Lincoln’s hidden heritage to life in new and imaginative ways. Through AR, audio and gamified storytelling, we want to uncover overlooked histories and invite audiences to experience them in fresh, engaging formats.
This opportunity forms part of Reimagining Lincolnshire, a long-term project that challenges whose voices are represented in our history and explores new ways of sharing the stories that shape our identity.
The Opportunity
As part of Frequency Festival 2026, we are commissioning five new works:
-
Three Community Co-Creation Commissions (£20,000 each plus an additional £5,000 for workshops), which place collaboration with local communities at the heart of the process.
-
Two Digital Hybrid Commissions (£9,000 each), which focus on the creation of digital-led artworks without the requirement for community workshops.
We are particularly interested in proposals that explore themes such as migration and diversity, LGBTQIA+ visibility, working-class women in politics, wellbeing and mental health, or Lincoln’s music, nightlife and cultural life.
Each work will premiere at Frequency Festival in Lincoln, February 2026.
