Prior to Digital Democracies, there was a dearth of digital work in outdoor and public spaces in the UK, with existing work within this realm predominantly light based, costly and resource heavy.
Digital Democracies has explored new models for commissioning high quality artwork for public spaces, driven by digital and emerging technologies, that is accessible and inclusive for both artists and audiences.
At its core, Digital Democracies seeks to remove barriers to culture and use digital as a driver for social change. Focusing from a human led perspective on how we move digital and culture forward to create meaningful social change in our public spaces.
A range of artistic commissions have been developed over the two-year research and development project, testing new and experimental work publicly and connecting those works with audiences across the UK through the unique festival partnership.
